About Us

In 2004, a pug owner, who was moving, asked a friend if she would take in her little pug named Peewee, care for her, and possibly find a new home for her. A few months went by, and Peewee found a new home. She was renamed Mimi. Little did anyone know at the time that little Miss Mimi would become CFPR’s unofficial  first rescue.

Pug friends in Central Florida soon realized  there was a need in the area for a pug rescue and adoption organization. Word spread quickly that these friends were here and willing to help any pug in need. During the next year and half, operating unofficially, many calls and emails were received from other rescues in Florida and even neighboring states asking for  help.  So, as an unofficial rescue, CFPR took in, cared for, and placed ten pugs. With the blessings and encouragement from  pug friends in the Central Florida area and beyond, it was decided to officially incorporate CFPR and file for  501c3  non-profit status….. hence CFPR was born on June 12, 2006.

CFPR’s hope is to continue helping the pugs in need in the Central Florida area, as well as assisting  “sister” rescues throughout Florida and neighboring states.

Our Mission

To provide rescue, fostering and adoption services for abandoned, neglected or surrendered pugs throughout the Central Florida area. To provide veterinary assistance to pugs in need to ready them for permanent adoptions. To work cooperatively with other local and state rescue and animal services. To provide information and education to the public regarding the pug breed, pug ownership and rescue operations.  We also strive to educate the public about spaying and neutering and the importance of how not doing it can affect the health of the pug.
